Monfort Rosa I.G.T., Dolomites' vineyard

Available in cases of 6, 500 ml bottles.

The rosé Moscato (Muskat) is a typical Trentino grape whose origins lie far back in history.
The production of this wine is limited, with just a few hectolitres being bottled each year in Trentino, making  Moscato Rosa a prestigious and sought-after wine. As with Moscato Giallo, the rosé variety likes to grow on land exposed to full sunlight. The areas where this vine is cultivated are the Vallagarina, areas near  S.Michele all'Adige and areas around Roverè della Luna and Trento.

Morphological characteristics of the vine

This vine, though not very productive, is characterised by a reasonable vigour, typical of Muscat varieties.
Rounded and three lobed leaf of average size.
Cluster long, generally medium to large, scanty and pyramidal.
Grape berries spherical; skin thick and substantial, pruinose and intense blue coloured.

Wine-making

The very thin skins do not leave much of a margin for error in the choice of the date for the harvest; the grapes have to be left to ripen for as long as possible but not so long that they are past their best. Then they are made into wine lying on-skins for a few days and fermenting in controlled conditions at a temperature of 14-16°C. Then once the desired amount of sugar residue has been reached, the fermentation process is interrupted by suddenly chilling the wine to near freezing point and keeping it cold until it is bottled.

Wine

Colour: it varies from ruby red to garnet with amber highlights.
Bouquet: pleasing, aromatic, broad, spicy, with clear rose notes.
The adjective "rosa" which denotes this strain of Muscatel does not refer to the colour of the wine (rosé) but to its intense and unmistakable bouquet of "rosa Tea" or tea-rose.
Palate: balanced sweetness, harmonious and rounded.

Gastronomic suggestions
